Installing A Samsung Ductless Mini Split In A Nampa Home
In Nampa, ID, the homes are all a little different, and that makes heating and cooling a bit challenging at times. One of the most common complaints we hear is the top floor doesn’t get enough heat or air conditioning, depending on the season.
For this Nampa homeowner, there was a particular bedroom on the top floor that was always uncomfortable. They had a fine central HVAC system that wasn’t too old, but it just didn’t seem to comfort this one room, no matter how high they turned up the heat.
Problem: A top-floor bedroom would never stay comfortable in the winter or summer.
Solution: We installed a single-zone Samsung ductless mini split
Using Ductless Mini Splits As A Supplement
Ductless mini splits can be used as a whole home solution, but it’s also a popular option to use them as a supplement for your current system. In this case, the current system wasn’t too old, and it wasn’t doing a bad job in the rest of the house.
We did check a few things first before recommending a ductless mini split.
The first thing we looked at was the current system, and as we mentioned, it was in fine shape, and not too old. So after that, we took a look at the ducts. They all seemed to be properly sealed, and there wasn’t a lot of leakage. The air ducts are one of the most common places to have air leak out, and to lose energy in the process.
Once we confirmed those two parts of the system were functioning well, we also took a look at how well the room was insulated. If the room was poorly insulated, it may not matter how well the system was working, it would still be uncomfortable. Once we saw the insulation was looking good, that’s when we started to explore supplemental solutions.

Installing A Single Zone Samsung Ductless Mini Split
We recommended that the homeowner install a single zone ductless mini split, and the homeowners were relieved that they didn’t have to replace their entire system. We explained that their current situation didn’t look too bad, and adding a single zone ductless would accomplish a few things:
- It would comfort the room that wasn’t staying comfortable
- It would alleviate stress on the current system
- It would help save energy by running the current system less, and using the energy efficiency mini split instead
Instead of using a window AC in the summer and a space heater in the winter, this ductless mini split would do the trick to both heat and cool this room, and do it quietly.
Because a ductless system doesn’t need ducts, we simply installed the heat pump outside, ran a small piece of lineset up to the bedroom along the outside wall, and attached it to the mini split inside. It’s a very simple process, and the fact that no ductwork is needed helped us knock out the job quickly.

Why Samsung Ductless Mini Splits?
There are a lot of different brands of mini splits on the market, and we install a few different ones. In this case, the homeowner decided to go with the Samsung WindFree 2.0 system. There are a few incredible features that make this unit convenient, and incredibly effective.
- WindFree 2.0 Technology
- Energy Star Certified
- Smart Technology
WindFree 2.0 Technology
First of all, this unit is “wind free”. This means that instead of those cold or hot drafts you may get with a traditional system, you won’t feel the same draft with this mini split. In some rooms, there’s maybe a “bad spot to sit” because it’s right by a vent, or in front of the window AC, and it gets uncomfortable. The technology in this mini-split eliminates the draft and keeps the whole space comfortable.
Energy Star Certified
The Samsung WindFree 2.0 is Energy Star Certified. It’s incredibly energy efficient, and will cost less to run than almost any other HVAC solution. An HVAC system becomes Energy Star Certified when it can use less energy, to complete the same job other systems would. This reduction in energy use leads to lower energy bills, and can also qualify for rebates when you are installing your system.
Smart Technology
This system is built with some incredibly smart technology inside it. You are able to access the controls through your phone, making it simple to program your system. You can set schedules, and adjust the temperature even if you aren’t at home. The system will use AI to adjust to your patterns, and find ways to save energy. You can even use voice controls to adjust your system!
